Tonalist wins Belmont Stakes; We Miss Artie dominates Queeen’s Plate Trial Stakes; Real Solution wins $1 million Grade 1 Manhattan at Belmont Park

TONALIST, an EQB Saratoga yearling selection for an EQB client and elite heart scan score for client Rob’t Evans, denies California Chrom3 the Triple Crown by winning the BELMONT STAKES. As a yearling our comment was “long term projecy, probably a long distance 3 year old.”

WE MISS ARTIE (already a grade one stakes winner), dominated prestigious Queen’s Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine June 15th. This yearling EQB purchase for Ken and Sarah Ramsey stalked the pace and drew off wide in a hand ride for the 1&1/8 mile Queen’s Plate prep.

KEN AND SARAH RAMSEY’s VICAR’S IN TROUBLE

WIRES $1 million Louisiana Derby

but in Kentucky Derby, he drew the #1 post position, and got slammed against the rail early so hard he lost a racing stripe of hair on his left side, got cut up, and had to be eased ! BAD LUCK.

More details from Thoroughbred Daily News follow — Double Trouble… VICAR’S IN TROUBLE EASY IN THE BIG EASY Ken and Sarah Ramsey already have GIII Spiral S. winner We Miss Artie (Artie Schiller) headed towards the GI Kentucky Derby, and the duo will have at least one other entrant on the first Saturday in May after Louisiana-bred Vicar’s in Trouble Into Mischief atoned for his third-place effort behind Intense Holiday Harlan’s Holiday in the GII Risen Star S. Feb. 22 with a convincing defeat of that rival in Saturday’s GII LouisianaDerby at the Fair Grounds. Commanding Curve Master Command who was pinched back at the start rallied nicely late to be third. You know he is a tiny horse but he’s got a great big heart, winning jockey Rosie Napravnik enthused. Vicar’s in Trouble debuted with a solid third-place effort sprinting over the Keeneland Polytrack but made a huge splash when dipped into Louisiana bred company at this track Dec. 14 overwhelming that group by 13 lengths over six furlongs. The dark bay stretched out to two turns for the GIII Lecomte S. going an extended mile Jan. 18 took a bunch of late action into 17-10 second favoritism at the off and raced away down the stretch to best Albano (Istan) by 6 3/4 lengths. Vicar’s in Trouble had the misfortune of drawing the 13 hole in a field of 14 for the GII Risen Star S. Feb. 22 and found himself further off the pace than he’d been in his previous three races. He was forced to race wide on both turns, but nevertheless challenged at the eighth pole before weakening into third, beaten 5 1/2 lengths by Intense Holiday and Albano %(Istan). Trainer Mike Maker elected to send Vicar’s in Trouble to Florida to train towards his next race, and while some consideration was given to the GI Florida Derby, the colt was returned to the Big Easy for his final Kentucky Derby prep. Vicar’s in Trouble was quickest away from the gates and led narrowly into the first turn from Louies Flower (Flower Alley) and GIII Gotham S. third In Trouble (Tiz Wonderful). Intense Holiday used his rail draw to full advantage and sat the perfect trip early with Albano further to his outside and close up. Rise Up (Rockport Harbor) winner of last year’s GIII Delta Jackpot S., went for an early run outside of horses down the backstretch, causing Joe Rocco Jr. aboard In Trouble to come away from the inside, slightly impeding Albano in the process. Back on the business end, Vicar’s in Trouble was having a fairly easy time of it and had something to say when Intense Holiday tried to make a race of it when heads were turned for home. He responded to jockey Rosie Napravnik’s urgings to pinch a break and was not for catching for the remainder, while finishing on his wrong lead, as has become his habit. Intense Holiday also jumped onto his left lead and was a clear second. The inside horse jumped-out right on me, jockey Mike Smith explained. But the race was over at that point. She (Rosie Napravnik) rode a great race. A brilliant race actually. It turned it into a two-furlong sprint not a 3/8’s type race where we can run out.”
