scroll down to spreadsheet below :

of those that went on to win a graded stakes in the last several years, the record was:

50 graded stakes winners listed here,

bought for an average of $157,568 @,   median $115,000@,

  with 20 bought < $100,000

       total spent = $6,983,000

         total purses earned = $38,218,000

and many were resold at over a million dollars each.

Of the above, there were 21 grade one stakes winners (won 32 grade one stakes), 10 of whom were purchased for under $100,00 and another 4 of whom that were purchased for under $200,000.

Many in the business long enough
can point to a good horse or two
they have been a part of somehow.
The percentage of their successes over
time is much more important.

And our
graded stakes
 percentages are
unprecented. Scroll down for spreadsheet listings.
Graded stakes are the top worldwide stakes and a tiny percentage of all the stakes races out there.
EQB has proven it can add value to even the most successful trainer’s selection process.

 We’ve bought
 unraced at
auction
 horses that
went on
 to
WIN 32 Grade One
 stakes races
(top 0.2% of the breed) in the past several years with horses we bought at auction as un-raced youngsters, as listed in the chart below. Average prices paid were below auction averages. For some we didn’t sign the ticket, but it was all our work to find and recommend the horse.
And consulted on
 at least a dozen other
Grade  One
stakes race
winners   [including a steeplechaser Balance The Budget ]
where we kept owners from selling homebreds as youngsters by consulting on their careers, purchase or retention at auctions recently including:  Recently : No Parole, Keeper ofthe Stars, Solomini, Big World, We Miss Artie, American Pharoah (multiple Grade 1 – TRIPLE CROWN,Breeders Cup Classic – see the front page NY Times article June 5, 2015),  RAISE CAIN by 7 1/2 lengths in Gotham this year, General Quarters  multiple Grade 1 winner bought for $20,000, Eskendereya, Keeper Of the Stars, Informed Decision, Forever Together, Big World, Solomini, We Miss Artie, Too Much Tip, Tonalist (multiple grade ones) ,  Bobbie’s Kitten (Grade 1 Breeder’s Cup),  Admiral Kitten (Grade 1- $459,080),  Big Blue Kitten (Grade 1 – $1,058,530) , Real Solution (multiple Grade 1 – over $1,200,000), Dullahan (G1-$1,072,0009),   Kitten’s Dumplings (Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Keeneland), Balance The Budget, Slipaway, and  Stephanie’s Kitten (multiple grade ones).

Purchased as yearlings and two-year-olds at public auctions. Race records through October of their three-year-old year. This record includes a new track record at Saratoga, a NY Turf Writers Leading Stable in USA title, and several Kentucky Derby and World Championship Breeders Cup entries.  It was a good start for a client in only its third year of racing!

Since then,

those percentages have held

roughly steady

Another example :–

In 2012 and 2013

we bought 14 horses at auction

as yearlings and 2 year olds

for a major EQB client

(call for details).

The result now

that those horses are 3 year olds

is over 20% graded stakes winners

 including GRADE ONE STAKES.

Their average price was $65,000

and they have already

earned over $2,200,000 in purses.

AND what about “off-the-track?”

A typical year’s fatigue curve

“release” list’s

subsequent performance:

( i.e., we don’t just buy at auctions.

Below are summarized results for those flagged for closer examination based on their velocity decay logarithmic fatigue curve in their 1st or 2nd race):

Among 189 full “releases”:

  • 49% Won stakes races
  • 70% Placed in stakes races (finished at least third)
  • 11% Won G1 stakes races
  • 18% Won G1 or G2 stakes races
  • 24% Won G1, G2 or G3 stakes races
  • 17% Placed G1 stakes races
  • 28% Placed G1 or G2 stakes races
  • 39% Placed G1, G2 or G3 stakes races

* These results are without testing, or knowing, other criteria like heart, gait or veterinary analysis, which would improve results.
